The Story Behind Melody Meets Me
Melody Meets Me is a 10+ year old solo project from Eric David Smith, aka Eric The Robot. The artist has single handedly written, recorded, produced and published over 700 heart-wrenched songs from his various apartments in Minneapolis, Los Angeles, Seattle, and now currently New York. Without any musical training what so ever, he began a long journey of songwriting to help him understand himself and the life around him.
Melody Meets Me was formed in Bremerton, Washington. Eric started recording tracks in his apartment after being in a car accident that nearly took his life. Instead of going to physical therapy, which he didn't enjoy, he started playing guitar to keep the muscles moving in his right arm. He is left with auxiliary nerve damage which has caused him to use other muscles other than his deltoid to move his arm above his head. There was a surgical pin placed into his arm, hence the aka name of "Eric The Robot".
1997
First recordings were done by way of cassette tape. Eric would flip over the cassette and try to get a stereo two channel sound from a dual cassette recorder. The tapes are no where to be found, but they're horrible anyway.
1998
Pre-ordered the first hard disk recording system from Digidesign Pro Tools and locked himself in his apartment to begin learning how to record. The recordings are online somewhere...but they are absolutely horrible.
1999
Eric attends McNally Smith College of Music in Minneapolis, Minnesota for Recording Engineering and producing, then drops out two times to pursue a hands on recording project.
2000
Started recording in a basement of a house in North East Minneapolis with other musicians trying to find a new sound while continuing to learn how to play multiple instruments.

2006
Moved to Los Angeles for a short period to perform in local Hollywood coffee shops and on Hollywood Boulevard for less than $50 per day. Recorded and jammed with many street musicians and experienced a whole new appreciation for all styles of music.

Took the year off musically and settled into New York.
2008
Remained low key in 2008, taking a musical hiatus in the studio, but worked on an independent short film for the New York Film Academy.
